Poet Ahn Joo-cheol has not published many poems as Korean poets, but he is said to be a poet who constantly strives and challenges in academia.

I tried to transcribe this poem as a representative work in his recently published poetry collection.

Also, this poem was translated into English well, so I transcribed it together.

Experiment24

Hamburg   By Ahn Joo Cheol

Translated by Jeanine Walker and Shim Jaekwan

Now I have a new hometown to die in and a new grave.

Now I have a far north European port

where I can touch the darkness for a long time.

Even though I recognize that the hometown

I was born in died before me and that a hometown

is nothing but a father,

even though I’m tired of living on the backs of stupid metaphors

and the tumbler on the shaking tips of my fingers is heavy,

the waves that count the age of the sea

flood onto the beach. I untie my mother’s bandage.

Blood-soaked gauze floods in.

The gauze turns away from me and comes rushing in.

Because my daughter’s hometown

is a faraway country where flowers bloom on the horizon,

I decide to forget the village where I was born and its shameful nationality.

Like giving water to a dead tree,

like leaning into a dead tree, my hand trembling,

I decide to forget.

Sitting on the seawall like a fish caught on a hook,

holding a boiled octopus while thinking about

a boiled seawall, I smirk. There may be sand

on my daughter’s toes, but the power of the waves

isn’t necessarily due to the age of the sand.

By Ahn Joo Cheol

Reading this poem depicts a scene of complex feelings about life and reminiscing about memories of the past.
It seems to depict the feelings of a boy who has aged.

Dreams  /  Langston Hughes

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

The weather is so hot here in Korea these days. The sunlight is strong, but most of all, the humidity is high, so it feels hotter. So I remembered last winter in my head and suddenly wanted to see the winter photos, so when I printed them out, I noticed that I was changing little by little as I came across this poem.

This time, I uploaded the picture first. When it's very hot these days, I like pictures like this.

But the poem depicts the morning, and the picture was taken in the middle of the night. The time covered in the photo and the poem is different, but I think the atmosphere that comes out of these works is very similar.

Winter morning poem    By Ogden Nash

Winter is the king of showmen,

Turning tree stumps into snow men

And houses into birthday cakes

And spreading sugar over lakes.

Smooth and clean and frosty white,

The world looks good enough to bite.

That's the season to be young,

Catching snowflakes on your tongue!

Snow is snowy when it's snowing.

I'm sorry it's slushy when it's going.

When I read this poem, I think that winter has come quickly and that it would be nice. Thank you so much for watching my transcription again this time. 🙏🙏

I don't really understand exactly what this poem means, but I guess some words and rhymes of this poem represent how beautiful this poem is.

I transcribed this poem with a fountain pen, and today, strangely, I really like the writing I wrote.

As I read this poem, I feel like I'm facing a playful child.

Волну по розовым озерам;

И паруса свивает в жгутья;

Today, I chose a picture where you can feel the wind while facing the picture. I'm posting this picture because three Cosmos I did earlier this year were captured looking good together.

Thank you so much for reading my writing again today. 🙏😅

As I read this poem, I sympathize with the fact that the mental world ages slowly, but the body ages much faster than I thought.

In fact, the content of this poem also seems to contain the poet's thoughts.

Thomas Hardy was a famous British novelist in the 19th century, and Tess of the d’Urbervilles(1891) was the most famous of his works.

I look into my glass

                                     Thomas Hardy

I look into my glass,

And view my wasting skin,

And say, “Would God it came to pass

My heart had shrunk as thin!”

For then, I, undistrest

By hearts grown cold to me,

Could lonely wait my endless rest

With equanimity.

But Time, to make me grieve,

Part steals, lets part abide;

And shakes this fragile frame at eve

With throbbings of noontide.

Today's picture is a picture that conveys the desire to hold on to the time passing by like an arrow. The clothespin is in charge of holding the time. I really hope time will go slowly now and I sympathize with the heart of this poem.

This time, I transcribed it with Waterman's Hemisphere fountain pen. I feel good because it seems like a poem that goes well with green ink.

This time, I put pictures in between while editing the video.  😅

Jeong Ho-seung is a poet that I really like. I recently purchased an additional volume of this poet's poetry collection, and this poem was on the page where I opened the bookmark to it, so I tried to transcribe it.

This poet writes poems that move people's hearts without using very difficult words.

Experiment04

In the poem's last series, the poet says that everyone has a cliff inside. I wanted to post this photo together because I wanted to express such a cliff as an image.

Next, I will post a link to the video I'm transcribing and the results.

And then I'm going to show you the original picture. The original picture was a very colorful blue hydrangea, but my editing gave it the meaning of a cliff.

Have a wonderful day 🙏🙏

This poem talks about art very figuratively and implicitly. This artist praises art, giving it deep and profound meaning with very strong and direct words. I interpreted it as just cheering for artists who devote themselves to art, but not forgetting the advice.

The poem about this art was written by an American poet, novelist, and essayist named Herman Melville.

He had a hard time growing up due to his family circumstances, and he got a job as a sailor to make money, got on a boat, and had various experiences, and later wrote a very famous novel called Moby-Dick; or, The Whale based on these experiences.

 Art         By Herman Melville

In placid hours well-pleased we dream

Of many a brave unbodied scheme.

But form to lend, pulsed life create,

What unlike things must meet and mate:

A flame to melt - a wind to freeze;

Sad patience - joyous energies;

Humility - yet pride and scorn;

Instinct and study; love and hate;

Audacity - reverence. These must mate,

And fuse with Jacob’s mystic heart,

To wrestle with the angel - Art.

I thought a lot about choosing a picture because the poem was so strong and impressive.

Even after choosing this picture, I can't convince myself that it actually looks good on me.

In my view, if you look at the original pictures, the impression is stronger.

Today, I'm going to transcribe a very short but beautiful poem in Russian and look at it. As I kept practicing Russian transcription, it was a little too much to still transcribe long texts, so I tried to transcribe short poems.

The author of this poem is Anna Akhmatova(Анна Ахматова). This name is a pen name and this writer's real name is Anna Andreevna Gorenko.

She is a very important person among modern Russian poets. Her writings are original and unique, and she has a profound influence on the history of Russian literature.

The poem that I transcribed today is the second of the two poems that I transcribed.

1909 г.

It consists of simple words and is a very short poem, but I can feel the feeling of recalling the memories of a year ago when I leaned on the white wall. It seems to recall memories of the light and the scent of lilies on the wall.

Experiment22 B&W

Although it is not a lily, I thought white roses would look good on me, and I thought the background and atmosphere would also look good on this picture.

Here's a video and a photo of me transcribing this beautiful Russian poem.

The same voice and gaze aglow...  /  Anna Akhmatova

The same voice and gaze aglow,
That same flaxen hair.
As it was a year ago.
Light-rays streaming through the air
Colors on white walls bestow…
Fragrances of lilies flow
And the simple words you share.

Thank you so much for reading me through. Next time, I will try to transcribe a longer one in Russian.  🤗🙏

ABOUT ME

I have been photographing as a hobby and I am active in Guri,Korea. For my own expression method, I take various flower photos and use a scanner to work on photography. So a small flower in the soil became a pleasant secret in my heart.
