1. Print out color & bnw pictures

2. First, choose a picture that is long enough to hold a single tree trunk with one hand

3. Uncover the scanner

4. Roll the picture and position it so that the flower can be seen and hold it with my hand

5. Press the scan start button and scan the picture held by my hand together

Experiment 18 The main point of this work is to hold a picture with my hand and scan it together. It's like expressing an event where a flower is given as a gift to a loved one.

It can be seen as a scene of confessing love by offering a flower to someone.
Maybe that's why the picture is expressed a little intensely.

/ Scan Results color

/ Scan Results B&W

When scanning this photo, especially the lid on the scanner should be covered well on my hand to prevent much light leakage. Because while scanning, strange external light leaks in, which can adversely affect the scan results.

If you look at the picture above, there is a hidden part in the hand grip. If you look at the original picture below, you can see what it is.

As you can see, there's a petal on the bottom, and I scanned it by hand to hide it.
Because there can be many reasons, but I think you can interpret it as a shy confession.

This photo was taken on July 9, 2022. Details are as follows. It was such a hot and humid day. But it was nice to see the beautiful lotus flowers.

It was a great time to see the beautiful lotus flowers on a very hot summer day. Of course, I remember having a hard time because it was so hot and humid.

I've written an additional article about Experiment 18. 😅

AnalogSparks is a representative film photography contest.

But I don't take film pictures.

It's a film photo contest, so I just watched the award-winning films of the year of production, and in the category description, I saw a phrase that Fine Art can support works that have undergone offline editing, not digital.

At that moment, my curiosity was triggered and I started looking for works that I could apply for. And I selected only one and applied for it. I feel really good that the application received HM.

If you take a slow look at the previous award-winning films, you'll see a lot of very unusual and sweet pictures.

The seal or certificate of this contest has a very simple and neat shape.

Then I'll show you the edited version that I received.

I haven't introduced how to edit this photo yet. I'm going to go into detail later.

I'll show you the pictures that I originally took. This photo was taken on April 29, 2023. At that time, when I was taking pictures, it had been raining for a long time the night before, so the raindrops were covered in tulip flowers.

Fujifilm    X-T4    F2.8    1/480s    ISO160    80mm

XF80mm F2.8 Macro

On this day, I went to Jangja Lake Park and took this picture, and it kept raining a little bit, so I took it with a big umbrella. I took a picture in the rain with an umbrella, so I took a picture of the aperture with the maximum opening.

I'll show you a page where you can go into the link and view it.

Please read the rules of this contest in the link below.

If you look at the website, you can apply until May 15, 2024, so please apply.

This Experiment 17 project aims to scan a laser. I don't think you'll know what I'm talking about if you just listen to this.

In fact, it was a coincidence that I started working on this.

At first, in the process of scanning a photo, I tried to create an artificial solution by shining a light onto the scan image.

But I was disappointed that the iPhone light did not appear in the scan result, perhaps because the scanner's light was strong.

Then, just in case, I lit a light between the photo and the scanner machine and scanned it, and it looked like a laser. It was such an amazing result.

I've created quite a few pieces in this way. I've tried mixing them with different experiments. I think it was more fun because it was a coincidence.

This picture was taken on March. 5, 2023. It was a spring day when plum blossoms were in beautiful bloom. It rains a lot, gets windy, and the sky is often cloudy due to yellow dust in Korea. Nevertheless, luckily, it was a sunny and warm day.

This project is quite labor-intensive. Because I have to prepare a big, square plastic container to put water in, fill it with water, make space in the freezer of the refrigerator, put that plastic container on top, and freeze it for hours.

I'm not a big fan of annoying things. And I still did this. Of course, I don't do it as often as I thought.

The above tulip photo was originally taken at Deokso Sampae Park in Korea on April 8, 2023. It was such a warm spring day and the tulips were very neat and beautiful and clean. The sun was warm and it wasn't very windy.

Fujifilm    X-T4    F2.8    1/1800s    ISO160    80mm

XF80mm F2.8 Macro

After editing this photo, I had it for a while and suddenly froze it at the end of May when it was just starting to get hot, so I tried this experiment.

This experiment 16 also worked in a different way. I also have the result of putting a picture in water and shining a light on it before. I'll post this next time.

There are so many different photo contests around the world, and among them,

I will tell you about free applications. However, the more I found out, the less easy it was to find a good photo exhibition without admission fees. Each photo contest has its own direction or purpose. There are contests for the purpose of protecting animals or nature, and contests for social issues or press photographs. There are also contests for photography that aim to publicize the damage caused by wars or natural disasters.

The photo contest introduced here now mainly recommends photo contests that can be supported in various ways related to natural animals and plants or landscapes.

In addition, the criteria for choosing the contest are more recognizable and organized around photo contests that are recommended by other photo-related sites.

1. Smithsonian magazine Annual Photo Contest

The first photo contest has been held since 2003. You may submit up to 15 photographs per category for a contest total of 90 submissions.

Grand Prize: $2,500.

Category Winners: The winners of each of the six categories will receive $500.

Readers' Choice: The winner of the online Readers’ Choice award will receive $500.

The application period is from September to November every year, and the winner is announced in March of the following year.

https://photocontest.smithsonianmag.com/photocontest/

2. Sony World Photography Awards

I've introduced the Sony competition before, and it's entry-free to submit up to three single images. The number of participants or entries in the photo contest is enormous, and there are many different categories to challenge.

https://www.worldphoto.org/

You can refer to my previous blog page for more detailed explanations.
https://idea0404.blogspot.com/2024/03/world-best-top-4-photography.html

3. HIPA International Photography Award

The application period for this photo contest is the end of June every year. You can submit one entry-free photo per category.

This contest is rumored to have a lot of prize money, so please apply. The general category and the storytelling section are divided, and black and white photos can be supported, so please pay attention to it.
In addition, various and unique photo exhibitions are also being held on the photo exhibition website.

https://www.hipa.ae

4. Pictor.com

Lastly, the site I introduce is not a photo contest, but a site that helps make it easier to support the photo contest.

Uploading your personal information and photos in advance makes it easy to compete in applicable contests.

Due to the large number of collaborated photo contests, you can occasionally go to the site to check out various information. Of course, there are paid contests, but you can apply for a variety of free contests.

https://submit.picter.com

To apply for a photo contest, you must first be prepared. Next time, I'll write about what to prepare and how to plan for the photo contest.

This photo was taken In Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea on April 28, 2022. It's an unknown cactus flower, but it was amazing and beautiful to see the flowers bloom. It was a tropical plant, so it was growing inside a botanical garden, not on a flat land.

This project was created by imitating the production method that was popular in art at some point. I came up with pointage, a unique painting method developed by French artist Georges Seurat, and I tried to copy it once, but if there were too many dots, I couldn't recognize the picture, so I worked with just a few holes.

I didn't make that many works with this work. But when I feel frustrated and blocked, I work this way.

When I edit photos in a variety of ways, I come up with this and that idea while walking on the street or riding the bus home, and I reflect it in my photo editing.

Next time, I'll show you a photo that's edited in a different way.

Thank you for watching my writing and pictures so far. 🙏

As a fan of IU, I made IU project because I wanted to work with the song.

I'll show you some of the lyrics of IU's Winter sleep.

A few flowers were picked in the early spring I felt it in front of your door
After a long sleep, I'll be in pretty bloom by then

Pour a cup of starry summer I felt it by your beside
It'll melt away soon, I guess you still want to rest alone
....

This photo was taken on January 9, 2022.

Fujifilm    X-T4    F8    1/120s    ISO400    80mm    XF80mm F2.8 Macro

It was freezing cold at the time of this photo, but the sunlight was soft,
so it was a good light to take dry flowers.

Like the lyrics of Winter sleep, I tried to express the feeling of waiting for spring.
Originally, this flower is a very small flower, but this is a picture that I took with a close magnification with a macro lens.

From now on, I will show you IU's other songs and photo editing that goes well with them.

On August 17, 2023, I received an email titled [Congratulations! You are a Px3 2023 Winner!] As soon as I saw the title of this email, I went in and read it.

It didn't say exactly what kind of award it was. It was just that you wanted to go to the contest website and see it. After reading the mail, I went to the website right away and checked the history menu to know that I received the gold.

It's a badge that I downloaded there

This is the highest award I've ever received. The gold letters over there made me excited. I guess I'm the only one who knows how luxurious that badge looks. 😅

This time, I'm going to show you the picture that I received the award. First, I'm going to show you the homepage, and then I'm going to show you the original picture.

As anyone who has been to my blog knows, this is a picture currently hanging in the main home. 😄🙃

This photo was taken by me on October 10, 2022.

Fujifilm X-T4 F2.8 1/4400s ISO160 80mm

XF80mm F2.8 Macro

It was an autumn day when the sunlight was so beautiful. I wanted to make the background of this photo look like it's snowing, so I opened the aperture to the maximum. Fortunately, I was happy to create a beautiful background. So it wasn't awkward if the cosmos flower was located a little below.

There's a picture of this picture converted to black and white, but I'll upload it.

Lastly, I will post a certificate that has been certified as an award.

This photo was taken on a warm spring day on April 10, 2021. It was great to see flowers just beginning to bloom on a spring day when I took this picture. The location is Water-clearing Arboretum in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, Korea.

In short, Experiment13 editing focuses on maximizing the 3D effect so that the flower in the center of the picture can stand out much more.

I can say that it's a forced effect on the flat pictures to look three-dimensional.

The reason I came up with this idea is that the flowers you see in the picture are beautiful, but if they look more three-dimensional, you can see different charms of the flowers.

I think there is too much possibility that the photo will change, even if it's a printed photo, depending on which angle I see it from, and which direction I fold it.

If I exhibit, I want to create a three-dimensional exhibition so that I can see all the folded forms. Just imagining this process makes me feel good.

In fact, the goal of this project is to focus on color. There are too many colors scattered in black and white photographs. Color may stand out more to the eyes of object viewers, but photographers who express the world in black and white are simple and try to show more meaning. I quite like editing in this way, so a number of pieces have been made in this way. I'm going to slowly show you more and more work in the future.

This photo was taken at Changdeok Palace in Seoul, South Korea on April 3, 2022. It is a famous place where red plum blossoms bloom early in spring and are also very beautiful.

Even on the day I visited, there were a lot of people, and the red plum blossoms were blooming beautifully.

Spring is coming soon. I will keep coming to you with my beautiful pictures of spring flowers.

See you later 😴

Top four most famous photography competitions in the world

There are so many photo contests all over the world every year.

Photography technology, which started with the camera Obscura, has been converted to digital through film, and today it is mainly consumed by mobile devices and is entering the AI era. Photography has a meaning of record at first through these changes and then gradually moves into the realm of art.

Through that process, the desire to promote one's photographs increased, and in line with this, a photography contest was created.

I also have a photo contest held in South Korea, but I've been looking for famous photo contests around the world to expand my area of knowledge.

I learned a lot of information while looking into many overseas competitions, and I am gaining a lot of experience by challenging the competition myself. So based on my experience and the information I learned, I would like to recommend my own authoritative and famous competition.

First of all, I summarized the world's four major photography competitions that I selected.

1. INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS™

The host of the contest is IPA Headquarters: International Awards Inc 1318E, 7th St., Suite 140, Los Angeles, CA, 90021 US. It's an organization centered in the United States.

Last year, the entry fee was $25 for a single image, but it went up $5 to reflect the inflation rate. 😢

There is a reason why the entry fee is high. This contest has a high level of applicants. That's why the application fee is set a little high, maybe for the reason of suppressing the application. If it is not recognized globally, I don't think this contest can increase the application fee like that.

I'm leaving a link to the homepage of this contest.

https://www.photoawards.com/awards

Introducing IPA support for 2024, the main photo of the page is curiously the 2022 winning entry by South Korean artist Youngkeun Sur. It's a very proud and touching piece.

https://photoawards.com/winner/zoom.php?eid=8-1659806306-22

2. Sony World Photography Awards

The full name of SWPA awards is the Sony World Photography Awards. It has to be famous. It has the name Sony.

Sony is now a huge influence in the mirrorless market. The impact started in 2006 when Minolta sold AlphaMount to Sony. Sony took over Minolta's technology and developed its cameras like a Walkman or a PlayStation by combining their own electronics manufacturing know-how.
Sony starts a photo contest immediately after acquiring AlphaMount.
It's a great company.
😅

This Sony contest didn't have Entry Fee until just two years ago. From my experience, it does.

Sony World Photography Awards promoted photo contests for free like this. So the number of applications once exceeded 300,000. Since the year before last, I expect that the number of applications has decreased slightly because some of them have been paid. As far as I know, up to three works are free of charge.

Link to the main page of this contest.

https://www.worldphoto.org/

3. Wildlife Photographer of the Year

Wildlife Photographer of the Year was founded in 1965 by BBC Wildlife Magazine, then called Animals. The Natural History Museum joined forces in 1984 to create the competition as it is known today. The annual competition and touring exhibition are now run and owned by the Natural History Museum, London.

In wild photography, it is recognized as a world-renowned competition.

The contest adheres to the principle of protecting wildlife. So the funds for the contest are being used to promote the conservation of wildlife by the organization. So if you pay for the association's fund, you can apply for six photos per category, up to 25 photos.

I think it can be difficult even to be selected for this contest because I mainly take pictures of flowers. If you look at the selected pictures, the quality is very high and the power of a picture is huge. But because it's a long-standing and meaningful photo exhibition, I put it on my own list.

This photo exhibition has a popularity vote among the final selected photos. Please refer to the contest website.

4. Le Prix de la Photographie de Paris ( PX3 )

The PX3 contest is a very familiar one to me. If you've read anything else on my blog, you can understand it.

It's based in Paris, France, and it's a pretty famous contest, especially in Europe.

It does not disclose the total number of applicants or entries for last year. It is expected to be a little smaller than the IPA Awards. It can be said that it is smaller than the IPA Awards, but there are quite a variety of scope and categories that can be applied and the level of competition is quite high.

Currently, as it is widely known around the world, various photographers from many countries are applying.

Link to the PX3 awards homepage  https://px3.fr/

I've applied to all four of the international photography competitions mentioned above. I won two of them. I'll tell you more about it later in another article.

Wildlife photographer of the year seems to be a difficult wall to overcome, although I have applied for it. Photographs of wild animals are the main photography competition.

Sony World Photography Awards are a photo exhibition where so many photographers apply for multiple entries that, if you don't stand out in an instant, you can say it's hard to even get a compilation. I applied last year, but honestly, I don't have much chance of getting good news in April.

The majority of the World Photo Contest allows duplicate entries. However, some photo contests do not allow duplicate submissions, so please be aware of the RULES of the photo contest and apply.

Fortunately, I understand that duplicate support is possible for the above photo exhibitions.

Next time, I will deal with another category of overseas photo contest.
🙏

I recommend that you go to the link above to the Sony Contest and appreciate the works of great winners.

Experiment11 project may seem too boring for elegant and concise photos,
so I'm using it as an editing to supplement it

It has the meaning of invigorating a monotonous and repetitive life
by making small changes

This photo was taken at the National Arboretumin Gwangneung,
South Korea on August 28, 2021

I was able to spend a cool and happy day in this arboretum where there was a lot of shade because it was so hot

ABOUT ME

I have been photographing as a hobby and I am active in Guri,Korea. For my own expression method, I take various flower photos and use a scanner to work on photography. So a small flower in the soil became a pleasant secret in my heart.
