On being asked for a War Poem / William Butler Yeats [ Photo with Poem ]
This poem I transcribed today is a bit of an interesting one.
It reminds me of the political situation I am experiencing in Korea these days and the political and economic changes that arise as the current president of the United States changes.
The author of the poem was written at the request of Henry James during World War I.
The person who commissioned the poem asked the poet to write it with political intent, but he did not refuse and delivered the contents of the poem in a poem that emphasized complete silence.
On being asked for a War Poem
William Butler Yeats
I think it better that in times like these
A poet's mouth be silent, for in truth
A poet's mouth be silent, for in truth
We have no gift to set a statesman right;
He has had enough of meddling who can please
A young girl in the indolence of her youth,
Or an old man upon a winter's night.

These days, I want to go out to the cathedral and pray. Please give us wisdom so that I can get through this difficulty wisely.
